Managing Pain With Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis_for_painHypnotize Yourself Out of Pain Now is a fantastic self-help manual for anyone suffering from the kinds of persistent pain that cannot be alleviated medically. We have previously mentioned it in one of our articles and it is now available in bookshops.

With so many self-hypnosis books currently on the market, this excellent account distinguishes itself by being clearly focused on a particular problem. It is also written by someone who is not only a clinical psychologist, but who has himself suffered from chronic pain.

Being An Effective Teacher With The Help Of NLP

Nlp_for_teachers_2NLP for Teachers combines a bright A4 format and accessible layout with detailed guidance and techniques on how to improve personal effectiveness as a classroom teacher.

Ideas from NLP have been gradually incorporated into education over a number of years, so it is good to see a book which brings the methods of NLP directly to bear upon the performance of the teacher and their interaction with pupils.

Still in the Storm - Dealing With Stress

Still_in_the_stormThis practical little book by Dr Ann Williamson reminds us of the basics of stress management. Short and easy to read, the content is not ‘rocket science’, but it can still be regarded as an effective self-help guide for anyone seeking practical advice on how to reduce the amount of stress in their life.

It works on the familiar premise that stress can be tackled in three ways. First you can remove some of the external causes of stress - though this is not always easy. Second you can alter your own responses to situations and things. Third you can learn techniques for dealing with the symptoms of stress.

The first option means actually changing aspects of your life, the second requires a change of thinking and the third involves learning stress reduction and relaxation techniques.

It is by far, the best motivational resource I have come across for young people and for the practitioners who work with young people.

The Buzz is written entirely from the point of view of teenagers – it’s interactive, humorous and relevant to their interests. Like the title suggests, this is basically a confidence builder and many of the techniques used are NLP based– but they are explained in a really simple, straight forward and fun way which directly appeals to young people.

What would your life look like? What would you be doing, thinking or feeling? How exactly would you know that a miracle had occurred?

These are some of the questions posed in The Miracle Question written by Linda Metcalf and published by Crown House Publishing, which advocates a ‘solution focused approach’ to our problems – but what does this actually mean and how can it help us?
