Hypnotise Yourself Out of Pain - Our Treatment Plan

Pink Flowers Pain is an essential part of our experience - without it we couldn’t survive. It is a means of alerting us to dangers in the physical world and to problems with our own bodies.

Anyone suffering from physical pain should of course have their condition checked out by a doctor to determine whether they have a medical condition that needs investigation and treatment.

Some pain however cannot be clearly related to a medical cause or may outlive the condition that gave rise to it, developing an independent existence. Phantom limb pain is a graphic example of this. But pain in the form headaches, stomach ache, back ache or chest pain can also sometimes persist for no obvious medical reason.

This is not to say the pain is not real. What it does indicate, however, is that pain is not purely a physical phenomenon. Because of this it can be helped by the kinds of techniques which we use in hypnotherapy.

In his excellent forthcoming book ‘Hypnotise Youself Out of Pain Now’ Dr Bruce Eimer, who has himself suffered from chronic pain resulting from a past road accident, offers some excellent methods for dealing with these kinds of pain.

Dr Eimer, a psychotherapist who uses hypnosis, explains that all pain has both a sensory and an emotional content. It is the emotional aspect of pain which is ideally treatable by the kinds of techniques employed in hypnotherapy.

Our programme for treating pain includes the following:

1. An evaluation of your experience of pain to ascertain exactly what form it takes and what it is you are feeling. This helps to set goals for the therapy and determine the precise nature of the treatment. Everybody’s experience of pain is unique.

2. The teaching of self-hypnosis in order to facilitate relaxation and reduce the stress and tension associated with pain.

3. Cognitive techniques to change your perception of pain and the way you think about and therefore respond to it.

4. Imaginative or hypnotic techniques to change your experience of the pain and to reduce its impact.

5. Regression to identify the original causes of the pain and help the mind to let go of those feelings of discomfort.

All treatments are tailored to the individual needs of the client.
