Word Reaches The Rovers Return

Rovers_return_3Word about the July 1 deadline for smoking in enclosed public spaces has clearly reached Coronation Street. As Janice lounged in The Rovers blowing smoke rings on Monday, nosey Norris pointed out she wouldn’t be able do that for much longer.

And in Wednesday’s episode we noticed a poster in the women’s toilets when Steve went in to console the grieving Michelle. Whatever is chain-smoker Deirdre going to do? She hasn’t been without a ciggy since Tracy went down for murder. Maybe Ken knows of a good hypnotherapist...

Seeing the World Through Another Person’s Eyes

Perceptual_positions_2What might it be like to see the world through another person’s eyes? Sounds like the stuff of science fiction, but it’s so easy to become locked in our own way of seeing that perhaps we should pose this question to ourselves more often.

Inevitably we see the world from our own point of view – and ultimately cannot do otherwise. But sometimes it is worth taking an imaginative leap and thinking about the other perspectives.

After all, as we often point out, the imagination is a very powerful resource. Through films and television fiction we allow ourselves to enter into other people’s lives, seeing the world through the eyes of our hero or heroine and losing ourselves in the process. Perhaps we should apply this skill more often in our everyday lives.

A Whiff of Complacency?

Smokefree_countdownIs it just my imagination of does an air of complacency still surround the impending ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces?

With just 19 days to go now until the legal restriction on smoking comes into force it still seems that many pubs are doing nothing to prepare their customers for the new legal requirements.

In the pubs I have been into recently smoking seems to be as prevalent as ever, with little in the way of warning signs to prepare customers for the culture shock.

For more information on the ban see Smokefree England.

Client Case Study - Tackling My Fear of Public Speaking

Public speaking can be nerve-wracking for all of us, but sometimes the pressure can become unbearable. For one of our clients a promotion at work meant she just had to face up to her fear.

Lizzie came to us with a fear of public speaking, which was severely retricting her in her job. Whenever faced with the prospect of having to speak to a large audience she found that her left leg shook uncontrollably.

Here in her own words is Lizzie’s account of how she overcame her fear through a combination of hypnotherapy and neuro-linguistic programming…

Step Into a More Confident You

Confidence_2Try this simple technique if you feel you're in need of a confidence boost.

Imagine a more confident you - not out of this world confident - but more confident than you may have been feeling lately.

See this more confident version of yourself sitting or standing in front of you. What does this more confident you look like? How is your body positioned? What expression do you have on your face?

How would your voice sound if you were to speak? What kind of thoughts might be passing through your head? Notice what it is about this other you that makes you seem more confident.

Now step into this more confident you. See through their eyes, hear with their ears and feel what they are feeling. And as you do so become aware of another you, an even more confident version of yourself there in front of you.
