Client Case Study: Overcoming A Food Phobia
Jennifer came to us with a long-standing food phobia - she hadn’t eaten vegetables or fruit for nearly 30 years.
Here she explains in her own words, how she overcame her problem through therapy and her inner determination to succeed.
"Before starting therapy, I hadn’t eaten vegetables for approximately 30 years. My diet consisted of potatoes, meat and sandwiches.
I think I had in my mind that I would be hypnotised and be told that I liked vegetables and that would be that. Hey presto!
After a faltering start, I began to have more realistic expectations of what I could achieve through therapy. I was taught various techniques through hypnosis and coaching and these became invaluable to me.
I started trying new foods, starting with carrots, and after a few days, I found that they no longer frightened me. Week after week, I grew more adventurous with the foods I was eating. I ate pasta and noodles for the first time in my life!
Asparagus, green beans, broccoli and fruit were some of the things I tried and found that they actually tasted quite nice. The more things I tried and liked, the more I wanted to try. It was a great feeling.
I can now look at cookery books and see lots of recipes I can eat, instead of just a few. Meal times are more enjoyable and my family are very proud of me.
I don’t feel I could have achieved any of this without therapy and I am so glad that I found someone who cared enough to help me.
This has been a truly life changing experience. Thank you so much".
