IBS and Hypnotherapy
IBS Awareness Month may be drawing to a close, but for many people diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome the suffering will go on.
This month we have featured articles on IBS and we thought we should conclude with a brief outline of the treatment programme that we offer.
We treat IBS over a course of six sessions. The first session is an initial consultation, the main purpose of which is to gather information and explain the treatment programme.
The next five sessions take place over a period of about three months. Sessions teach the client how to relax and take control over their mind, their body and their emotions. Later sessions embed the techniques and resources needed to keep the client on the road to a better quality of life.
Recordings
The sessions themselves, however, are only part of the treatment. Clients are required to invest a significant amount of time each day, building upon the actual sessions themselves by listening to our recordings.
It is essential that the client give their full and unequivocal commitment to the programme for it to be worthwhile. This is not in any sense a magical cure but depends upon the client taking responsibility for their own recovery and being prepared to do the homework.
Balance
The use of hypnotherapy in the treatment of IBS is the best researched of all areas of complementary medicine. Its success results from the balance it aims to achieve between the mind, the body and the emotions.
The programme we offer has been tried and tested over a number of years by Hypnotherapist Mike Mahoney who is based at the Guardian Medical Centre in Warrington. Mike has undertaken extensive research in this field and has built up a wealth of evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of the treatment. As a result of his work with IBS sufferers over 16 years, he has built up an international reputation.
