Stop and Take a Deep Breath…

Img_0243_1It’s incredible how much of our lives we spend looking forward to the future and hoping that the present moment will pass as quickly as possible. ‘…I just want to get to the end of the day so I can relax…I'll be able to unwind at the weekend…the holidays will be here soon...’

There’s nothing wrong with having things to look forward to in our lives, but the extent to which our perceptions of the future can take over from our lives in the present, sometimes reaches unhealthy proportions.

Often the reason why we are struggling to get through the present moment is because we are feeling stressed. One of the main reasons for our feeling of stress, however, is that our minds are overloaded.

And what do we overload our minds with? We overload our minds with thoughts - thoughts of what has happened in the recent past and of what might happen in the future. Under these conditions we function less effectively.

Spots of Time

Img_0398_2Lakeland poet William Wordsworth is often stereotyped as a lover of ‘daffodils’ - and of all things associated with the natural world.

There is no doubt that Wordsworth had a passion for nature, but the source of that passion more importantly came from within.

Who Are We?

Julian_photo_crop_3We are Julian and Michaela Gill, a husband and wife team offering hypnotherapy and life coaching. We work from our home in Ribchester, in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley in Lancashire.

We are also resident hypnotherapists at Kendal House Clinic for complementary therapies, located in Longridge, a small town just a few miles from Preston.

Because we are a husband and wife team we can give you the choice of a male or a female therapist for one-to-one sessions, if you have a preference.

Michaela_photo_crop_2Both of us are experienced professionals with combined backgrounds in education, careers guidance and training and development.

We both have Professional Hypnotherapy Diplomas in Clinical and Analytical Hypnotherapy and are registered with the GHR. This means we comply with their code of ethics and are required to meet established professional standards.

Sun, Sand and Stress Free Living

Img_0383If you ever find yourself in the small fishing port of Arguineguin in Gran Canaria look out for the ‘Healing Hands’ holistic therapy centre.

With its small, black sanded beach and sleepy fishing port, Aguineguin is not the most obvious location for such an enterprise.

You can imagine our surprise therefore when we chanced upon the immaculately presented shop front tucked away on one of its narrow waterfront streets during a recent holiday in the Canaries.

We have a good friend called David Hodgson, an NLP expert and trainer. He is also an excellent story-teller.

In his new book, 'The Buzz', he describes the inspiring experience of a skydiver whose parachute failed to open and who was hurtling to almost certain death.

Amazingly, he survived, but the experience changed his life forever...

Just A Minute...

GirlDid you know it takes as little as one minute a day to start making positive changes to your life?

The ‘Just a Minute’ campaign aims to encourage people to incorporate regular periods of silence into their busy and often chaotic lives – but in easy to manage, ‘bite-size’ chunks.

By taking just 60 seconds out at regular intervals – a person can begin to feel the benefits of inner calm and peace – allowing them to ‘step back’ from the worries and stresses of their day.

To find out how you can benefit from introducing one minute meditation sessions into your day-to-day routine, check out the ‘Just a Minute’ campaign.

Is Stress Getting You Down?

ImagesStress at work is a major problem in the UK today. Well over half of British people report having experienced stress at work in the last twelve months.

Yet staggeringly only 20%, of those experiencing problems due to work related stress actually seek professional help – despite all the ill effects on our physical and mental health.

This is one of the key findings of the International Stress Management Association, who held their annual National Stress Awareness Day on Wednesday, November 1.
